English Language Preparation

Our English Language Preparation Programme is a fast and effective programme which focusses on improving your reading, writing, listening and speaking skills, enabling you to join our A Level, Foundation or Undergraduate Year 1. This intensive course is available for one, two or three terms and can be booked when you apply to study our A Level, Foundation or Undergraduate Year 1 course.

Taught by specialists

We have a long history of teaching students for whom English is a second or third language. We have designed our English Language Preparation Programme specifically for international students, to equip you with the communication skills and confidence you need to succeed during you studies at Bellerbys.

Our expert staff have helped thousands of students who need extra support with their written and spoken English before progression to our A Level, Foundation or Undergraduate Year 1 course. We offer modern teaching, with a tailored approach to give you the personal attention you need.

Course structure

  • Choose between one and three terms before joining your academic programme
  • Receive 25 hours of teaching per week
  • You'll also receive exam preparation and skill classes

If you need to improve your English language level in preparation for our GCSE programme you can take our Pre-GCSE programme

English Language Preparation key facts

Minimum age: 15+
Course length 1, 2 or 3 terms followed by your chosen Bellerbys programme
Start dates: January, April, June and September. See term dates
Hours per week 25
Location: Brighton or London
Study plan: Once you complete the English Assessment Test our staff will advise how long your English Course needs to be before you start your chosen academic course.

A Levels

A Levels are British qualifications, accepted by all universities in the UK and recognised in the USA and Australia. Students who are with us for five or six terms will typically study up to four A Levels. This gives you a world of choice.


Bellerbys London Star Student Mark Lee

A one-year course for international students that builds specialist subject knowledge and language and study skills. It is more focussed than A Levels making it good preparation for university. It is recognised for entry onto a range of degree programmes at more than 70 universities in the UK.
