Parents guide A parents' perspective on college education

A Happy and Safe Environment

Academic brilliance is one part of college life, yet blending in with the surroundings and atmosphere is another equally important part.

Being happy is central to the development and success of students. The location of our colleges, based in the key UK cities of Brighton, Cambridge, London and Oxford perfectly suits different personalities and tastes. Each campus has modern and comfortable facilities with a range of accommodation options.

Help with English and extra classes if required

Teachers at Bellerbys College regularly offer students personal attention if they need extra help with their classwork, whether it is with English or one of their academic subjects.  And regular homework assignments and half-term reports ensure students are on track. This enables them to progress confidently.

Small Classes

Small class sizes help Bellerbys teachers connect with students as individuals. This helps Bellerbys students to arrive at university with a major advantage – the study skills necessary for degree success.  And a focus on university style lecturing wherever possible means that our students are taught to develop self-study, interactive discussion and independent thought.

Personal confidence development

Our enrichment programme is weaved into the weekly timetable and is an integral part of the overall enjoyable and confidence building learning experience Bellerbys offers. Our aim is to provide exciting experiences that bring academic subjects to life and develop a student’s confidence, independent thinking and personal skills, such as creativity and problem solving, the skills that top universities and leading employers look for.

Expert counselling and advice on university applications

Alongside a clear academic focus, we carefully manage the programme to help students prepare for each step of the university application process. We want them to feel at home at Bellerbys, enjoy their time with us and make good friends. Students receive expert advice on UCAS applications based on their current and expected academic grades and career aspirations.  They receive help and advice for each stage of the university application process including interview technique, writing their personal statement and workshops with staff from leading UK universities.

Teacher Qualifications

Our teachers help students develop academically through discussion, debate and investigation, instilling the ability to think independently and question the world around them.

At Bellerbys College we have teachers with PhDs (e.g. Biochemistry), teachers who are Oxbridge graduates and professionals in art and media as well as those who are qualified to teach professional qualifications such as CISI. This means at our specialist colleges students are taught by the very best in their subject field.

What our students say

Kanae from Japan: “My teachers have been very helpful with my personal statement and UCAS which really helped me to receive my offers.  They are very open and up for support every day. This helped me to ask questions during and after class.”

James from Indonesia: “The teachers and staff at Bellerbys were passionate in teaching as well as helping with our UCAS application so we can get into university that we want.”

Minh Ngoc from Vietnam: “Bellerbys has provided me such great teachers with high level of qualifications and specialist knowledge who also have great passion for their subjects, along with dedication and patience in teaching us.”

Ilsina from Russia: “At Bellerbys I received extra support from my tutor, teachers (in terms of useful advice), attention and care.”

Excellent Academic Results

Bellerbys students consistently achieve outstanding academic results and are sought after by the best universities in the UK. In fact 80% of Bellerbys students across all programmes progressed to a top 50 UK university in 2015.

Control and Curfews

Curfews are in place across all centres, depending on student age and from weekdays to weekends. We allow the students enough space and freedom to nurture personal and academic growth, whilst understanding that many students can be as young as 14 years old. We have a team of dedicated teachers and other professionals who have worked with students for many years and are aware of the issues that can worry or affect students while studying far from home. CCTV cameras are also installed in halls of residence and in schools. Homestays have variable curfews in place and parents can communicate their preferences directly with the host family.

What Parents Say About Us:

"I've always wanted the best education for my children and so having chosen Bellerbys College London for Raquel (my daughter's) A Levels has proved to be a great choice. She is doing very well and loves all her teachers as they give her all the help/support she needs and, most important, they really make her feel like they care! Needless to say that she's happy and if she's happy, I'm happy too. Besides that I've visited the College and enjoyed the attention I was given as well as the space which looked modern and functional. Thank you all."

Raquel's mother

"My son, Shaun, made the right and wise choice of selecting Bellerbys College to pursue Foundation Law to prepare himself for admission into the School of Law, University of Nottingham... Bellerbys College is indeed a great place for Shaun’s development and preparation for law school. Each term, the college staff would send me a copy of Shaun’s progress report. I am really heartened with the care and guidance provided to its students."
