Tessa Legg, Student Services Officer

"Being a new member of staff can often be a nerve-wracking experience.  At Bellerbys College however, from staff and students alike, I have felt genuinely welcomed.

My role of Student Services Officer means that I am able to interact with many students.  New students often use the reception area as their first port of call, and it is very rewarding to see them day after day becoming more confident.  Whether through making ID cards, writing letters for them or helping them to navigate their way around the buildings and city, you soon get to know the new faces.

The students at Bellerbys make the school what it is.  They are always friendly and helpful and turn up looking eager to learn.  The social programme encourages students to participate in nights out around the city centre.  I think the fact that many students ask the staff to come along too shows that the students see us as accessible, friendly and willing to get involved.  The students often get to know the reception staff very well, and frequently have a joke with us as they pass.  Bellerbys is a happy school.

Being born in Oxford you sometimes forget to marvel at your beautiful surroundings, until you watch new students doing so. The city centre is so lively in the morning, with people queuing for coffee, shops opening, and students making their way to the college.  The morning bus is always jam-packed: you can often hear groups of students beginning to engage with each other in English.  On my lunch break I walk out of the door and immediately I am in the city centre of Oxford; something I’m sure the students appreciate as much as I do.  And on a sunny day with the windows open you can often hear buskers outside, playing music along the busy streets."
