Pat Peers

Pat Peers, Librarian

Pat Peers is the person that most of the students at Bellerbys Brighton first think of when asked who symbolises the college for them. She represents an island of calm in the sea of tranquillity that is the Library.  Ever-reliable, ever-resourceful, Pat will always be ‘on their side’ whenever they are faced with the everyday problems of student life.  Pat’s starsign is Aries and this is represented in her firm leadership of the Library and its resources.

When asked what she likes about Bellerbys herself, she turns to the students for her own inspiration, “I like the students,” she says, “I like meeting new people all the time and I like the idea that they come from all over the world to study in our library.”

Pat’s dedication to her students and the Library is legendary but she has a home life as well to which she is equally dedicated. There’s her husband Bill, her sons Dan and Barry and her four grandchildren. In addition to this, Pat is a great lover of animals and she has three dogs and two cats.

But what does Pat do when she finally has a chance to relax?  “I like to listen to classical music amongst others,” she says, “And I am looking forward to reading some books on my bus journey to work to the new centre.  I like reading when I have time.  The most recent books I have read was about ‘Ceilidh’s Quest’ - a true story about a Toller owned by Gail MacMillan the author of Toller books.  Another book that I have enjoyed recently was ‘The Alchemist’ by Paul Coelho that students requested for the Library.

What advice would Pat give to new students. “Don’t be afraid of anything,” she says, “Especially me!” (with a laugh), “I sometimes have to keep saying ‘Shh!’ a lot – but students should remember that I’m there to help them  - and  am always pleased to help.”
