Studied A Levels at Bellerbys Brighton
Grades achieved: AAAA (Chemistry, Economics, Further Maths & Maths)
Secured a place to read Maths at Oxford University
Yu Chen, 19, from Shenzhen, China, achieved A grades in A Level Chemistry, Economics, Maths and Further Maths to confirm his place at St. Hugh's College, Oxford where he will study for a degree in Maths.
Dr. Ken Butcher, his Maths teacher at Bellerbys Brighton describes Yu Chen as 'a very gifted student who has a real talent for Maths. I believe he will do very well at Oxford.''
Yu Chen comments, 'I found Dr. Butcher's teaching very enjoyable. I like to find the most elegant solution to a problem and he encouraged me by giving me some very demanding questions which, though difficult, were fun to solve.'
Like many of his fellow students Yu Chen helped those stricken by the earthquake in Sichuan province, China in 2008.
'Students like Yu Chen make an immense contribution to the Maths teaching in the college,' noted Dick Dixon, Head of Maths, 'because they bring enthusiasm, intellectual curiosity, fun and a high level of intelligence to the study of the subject. I wish him all the best and congratulate him on his success.'
