Meet Some 2010 Bellerbys Graduates
Tran Thuy Trang
Tran Thuy Trang from Vietnam
Studied A Levels at Bellerbys London
Grades achieved: A*A*A*A*
Secured a place at University College London to study Mathematics with Economics
We have had many amazing Maths students in 2010, but Tran Thuy Trang from Vietnam still stands out, with a wonderful set of A-Level results and a place at UCL to study Mathematics with Economics. As her Further Maths teacher John McDarby says, “Trang really is a model student: hard working, super motivated, naturally talented, and capable of understanding complex ideas across a whole range of subjects”.
With a genuine and deep interest in Maths, Trang consistently amazed her teachers with her elegant problem-solving skills and ability to go away and extend a topic in her own time. In fact, John remembers one incident which really showed Trang’s character. “Following a brief introduction to ‘Fourier series’, Trang went away and investigated this topic by herself”, says John. “She then cam back and beautifully explained the applications of this mathematical topic! It was deeply rewarding as a teacher to meet this kind of intense passion and talent.”
Trang’s Economics teachers were also taken aback by her tireless pursuit of knowledge. Economics teacher Jerome Lee describes her as “a brilliant Economics student with superb analytical, communication and evaluation skills”. Jerome even joked that Trang didn’t even need a teacher in Economics, such is her talent and enthusiasm!
As well as excelling academically, Trang also found time to get involved in many extra-curricular projects and events at Bellerbys London. She took part in national competitions such as the Senior Maths Challenge, attended our weekly Economics club, was an active member of our Charity Club, and participated in essay writing competitions.
We will of course be sorry to lose such a great all-round student, but we all the staff at Bellerbys London are so pleased for Trang that she has achieved so much in her time with us. We know this is just the beginning for her and that more wonderful achievements lie ahead at UCL and beyond.
