Elaine O'Neill

"My degree is in Chemistry - at school it was my favourite subject and I thoroughly enjoy sharing my passion for Chemistry with my students and seeing them rise to the challenges it presents.

As a former principal of a Cambridge college, and having taught in several independent schools where there were a large number of overseas students in the sixth form, I appreciated how interesting and rewarding it was to teach such highly motivated and committed students. When Bellerbys came to Cambridge 10 years ago it was the perfect choice for me.

I enjoy working with people from diverse backgrounds and being part of a team that shares a common goal.  My colleagues are very dedicated and professional - and they are fun to work with.  I love teaching, especially when the students are so highly motivated as they are here. Every year when our students secure their university places, it is wonderful to know that I have contributed to their life's journey.

I teach with great enthusiasm and passion and have a flair for making difficult concepts easy. As Head of Science, I oversee the progress of all science students and give them all the encouragement and advice they need. I advise all potential medics and dentists, secure courses for them and give them mock interviews to help develop their confidence and presentation skills.

Outside of work, I greatly enjoy natural history, light opera and art. I'm also a pretty good cook. The chemistry helps - many of my dishes are simply successful experiments."
