Chemical Engineering (Oil & Gas) Foundation Course
The Chemical Engineering Foundation offers direct progression to Chemical Engineering and oil and gas-related degrees at a large number of Bellerbys partner universities, including the following universities all of whom are ranked among the top 10 university destinations for Chemical Engineering:
University of Birmingham; University of Manchester; University of Newcastle; University of Nottingham; University of Sheffield.
You can choose to study the Chemical Engineering Foundation course at Bellerbys College Brighton, Cambridge, London or Oxford and start the course in January or September.
Academic Structure
Students will study core subjects, with all other Foundation students, plus:
Pure Maths 1
Functions including the modulus and exponential functions; logarithms; series; the equations of lines; solving trigonometric equations; basic differentiation and integration and their applications; data handling including histograms, mean, mode, median and standard deviation.
Pure Maths 2
Develops the mathematics studied in Pure Maths 1 and covers further algebra, co-ordinate geometry, trigonometry, differentiation, integration, numerical methods and vectors.
Mechanics 1
Vectors, forces and equilibrium, relative motion, Newton’s Laws of Motion, friction and work, energy and power.
Mechanics 2
Further Kinematics, Circular Motion, Simple Harmonic Motion, Moments in 2-Dimensions, Elasticity and Further Particle Dynamics.
Core Principles of Chemistry
Study and apply formulae, equations and moles, atomic structure, redox systems, thermodynamics and bonding.
Kinectics: Acid-based Equilibria & Organic Chemistry
Reaction rates, acid-based equilibria, kinectics and organic chemistry.
Properties of Matter & Waves (part module)
Matter, elasticity, heat, specific & latent gases, radioactivity, fission, fusion, light, sound, interference, diffraction, electromagnetic spectrum, photoelectric effect, energy levels, excitation and ionization.
