Equivalent to the first year of an undergraduate degree, the Undergraduate Year 1 in Business and Management prepares suitably qualified students to enter the UK higher education system with confidence. Choose from a range of business-related degrees at one of 25 partner universities.

This three term course, validated by the University of Sussex, is equivalent to the 1st year of an undergraduate degree, and is designed for academically qualified students seeking to maximise their potential with the opportunity for direct entry to 2nd year study at a top UK university. Undergraduate Year 1 in Business and Management

On successful completion* of the Bellerbys Undergraduate Year 1 in Business and Management programme you have the opportunity to progress to the second year of a business related degree at one of over 20 partner universities subject to achieving the grade required by that university. Progression options include a diverse range of subjects, such as, accounting, finance and tourism as well as business and management.

Students receive a conditional offer on application to Coventry University. Admission will be confirmed once the academic and English requirements set by Coventry are met by the applicant.

  • Age: Students are normally 17.5 or over. Over 21s are considered on a case-by-case basis
  • Course length: one year (3 terms) Start dates: September to June (3 terms) or January to August (3 terms)– see term dates
  • Entry requirements: Completion of Senior High School (and in some countries evidence of further year’s study) 2 A Level passes (not including native languages), Bellerbys Foundation or equivalent and IELTS 5.5 overall (with a minimum of 5.0 in writing) or equivalent.  If you do not meet these requirements you can study our Combined Foundation + Undergraduate Year 1

The intensive nature of the three term (one year) Undergraduate Year 1 programme enables students to make rapid progress and puts them in the best position to achieve a top degree from an excellent UK university. This intensive programme consists of between 24 and 30 hours of class time per week, depending on the term. Modules are differing in size, each carrying a different number of credits. As part of your programme of study you will also complete compulsory Study Skills modules in English and IT.

Students are also expected to carry out 20 hours of self-study per week.

You will be allowed one reassessment or resit of assessments and examinations.

**As long as students are strong academically, they can take 75 credits in one semester (rather than the usual 60 credits) and therefore complete their degrees in two years.

This six-term academic programme, with an April start, unites the Bellerbys Foundation course with the innovative Bellerbys Undergraduate Year 1 Business and Management. By combining these two cutting edge programmes, students can rapidly make progress and move directly from the Foundation course on to the 2nd year of degree study in September of the following year. This programme is an advanced six-term course of study, successful completion of which ensures progression into the second year of an undergraduate degree at one of the UK universities listed on the next page (subject to achieving the grades required by that university). The college offers start dates in either January or September.

Combined Foundation and Undergraduate Year 1 key facts...

  • Course length: 3 terms Foundation followed by 3 terms Undergraduate Year 1
  • Start dates: September, January and April– see term dates
  • Entry requirements: Satisfactory completion of secondary or high school and IELTS 4.5 or equivalent.

Academic entry requirements

To study the Undergraduate Year 1 in Business & Management you will need one of the following:

  1. Completion of Senior High School (and, in some countries, evidence of a further year’s study)
  2. 2 A Level Passes (not including native languages and not AS passes), Bellerbys Foundation or equivalent

English language requirements

To study the Undergraduate Year 1 programme you will need to demonstrate an English language level equivalent to the following:

  • IELTS 5.5 TOEFL 513 (computer test equivalent 183) with a minimum of 5.0 in writing
  • Pearson Test of English Academic 48-51

If you possess an English language level of IETS 4.5 or equivalent you may study the Combined Foundation and Undergraduate Year 1 programme. Depending on the type of visa you are entering the UK on you may take the Study Group English Test to determine your English language level.

English Language Preparation Programme (ELPP)

If you do not meet the English language requirements for entry to the Combined Foundation and Undergraduate Year 1 you can study one, two or three terms of English Language Preparation prior to the start of your academic programme. The length of your English Language Preparation Programme will depend on your current English language level.

The Bellerby’s English Language Preparation Programme, helps students who need a little extra support with their English skills before progressing on to further study. The programme is built around 25 hours of weekly instruction in general English, examination preparation and skills classes.
