A teacher welcoming international students in Oxford

Studying abroad is an adventure, no less. Especially for us inexperienced young individuals who have never once left the care and protection of our families. The idea of it all can be a little bit daunting for some people, as travelling to and living in a foreign country are no easy tasks. Our loving Bellerbys College, however, has been doing a fine job in making studying abroad a lovable and unforgettable experience for international students.

Having been in Bellerbys College Oxford for more than a year, I can confirm that Bellerbys College is a fantastic place to be and to study in, and many new students – even those who have only been with us for less than two weeks – agree with me. Wanting to get to know them more, I decided to have a friendly welcome chat with a few of those who started their journey with Bellerbys in January.

At the start of every September and January, Bellerbys College Oxford gives new groups of students a warm welcome with an induction programme. This programme includes giving students guided tours at school and around the city of Oxford, topped with a Welcome Party in which new students are invited to come and check out a great number of clubs and societies in our college. Very exciting, isn’t it? Our new students certainly loved it! Two very lovely young ladies in Foundation in Art and Design are more than happy to share their experience with us!

Sheryl Lee (17) from Singapore, found that the Oxford guided tour included in our programme particularly helpful in a way that it showed her a very convenient route which she can use to walk to school. The route she used to take took her a long time, so she was more than happy to discover a way to shorten the distance from the city centre to Bellerbys.

Anis Yazmin Mohamad Khairi (17) from Malaysia, said the induction programme really eased the butterflies in her stomach from being a new student at Bellerbys. Anis loved it when she was guided to her Art Room, a place she will be working throughout the year, because she was amazed by how the room had such wide glass windows, allowing her to view parts of Oxford. I, myself, have been to the Art Room before, and I must say its atmosphere truly makes you feel like an artist, not to mention that it has the most spectacular view of the sunset!

Sheryl and Anis both agreed that the induction programme helped them a great deal in showing them where to get their essentials and supplies in the city, which is very ideal for art students, of course. The two ladies have also signed up for Art Club and Photography Club during Bellerbys Oxford’s Welcome Party. In addition, they have both fallen deeply in love with their Art class. Art is definitely their passion!

Moreover, Sheryl and Anis are both very pleased with Bellerbys College’s accommodation. Sheryl, who lives in a home-stay, said she had absolutely no complaints about her living condition. She said, “My host is friendly, she makes me feel at home and comfortable living under the same roof. I’m very satisfied with it as I’m well taken care of.”

Anis is extremely happy with her student residence for students under 18 years old. She was thrilled by how well-equipped the residence was, especially how the Common Room has great entertainment devices: a Wii, a PlayStation 3 and an Xbox! The student residence is also very close to both the city centre and Bellerbys Oxford, thus it is a big bonus for her. “The student residence is a great place to take your baby steps in living independently!” Anis said enthusiastically.

Anis and Sheryl told me Bellerbys College has everything you need to help you make progress in achieving the knowledge and skills required for university. They both have strong faith that Bellerbys College will definitely motivate and guide them through the whole process of preparing and applying to university. Most importantly, many new students are having a great time in Bellerbys College, and they all are starting to feel as if the United Kingdom is their second home.

Special thanks to Sheryl and Anis,
